The Reduction Planning and Promoting Project for Single-use Plastic products 2020.

Absrtact
The main aims of this project, which was commenced on April 28th 2020 and is to be completed on February 26th 2021, include to collect measures observed worldwide pertaining to the prevention and reduction of municipal waste, to establish the baseline data of single-use plastic products in Taiwan, to review the existing measures pertaining to the restriction of single-use products and propose corrective measures, and to promote non-regulatory practices of source reduction such as green night markets and the use of reusable containers for food delivery services. The major outcomes of this project include the following: 1) The collection and analysis of policies, regulations and measures related to the usage reduction and restriction of single-use plastic products and of plastic microbeads and biodegradable plastics; the accumulation of domestic baseline data of single-use plastic products; the proposal of measures and suggestions that aim to improve the management of source reduction of municipal waste in Taiwan; the plan to issue a written statement on the above both in English and Chinese; 2) Assistance in proposing ideas to revise regulations related to source reduction of single-use plastic products and in handling related tasks; the provision of guidance and supporting measures for the executive authorities and schools to reduce the usage of disposable tableware and bottled water; 3) The provision of support in the assessment, counselling and awarding of green night markets; 4) The setting-up of the pilot program to use reusable containers for food delivery services in order to reduce the usage of single-use plastic products; 5) The continued tracking of the status of, and provision of advice related to, the announced measures pertaining to the source reduction of municipal waste; the conducting of surveys on the two topics - the current usage of plastic shopping bags and disposable tableware and beverage cups, and the extent of the general public's putting environmental protection into practice and their suggestions about areas of restriction for reinforcement; 6) The organizing of campaigns and press conferences, and the designing of promotional literature about reducing the usage of single-use plastic products; holding review meetings and workshops to exchange ideas.
